I have heard folk tales of "ana mayaki" or the "elephant whisperers" in Kerala, but I never believed them completely. Seemed strange that human's would possess the ability to hypnotize and control rampaging beasts. However, this video shows exactly that!
The reason in my opinion is possibly body language. The man stands coolly in front of the charging beast. The pachyderm, which is used to people turning and fleeing, is on the other hand, bewildered and chooses to turn tail in the face of this strange, fearless being, who shows up his palm as if it were some strange weapon!!!
I have been told this before, especially with reference to dogs, who apparently chase people who show fear and flee. The best thing to do is not to show fear and to stay calm. Animals apparently do not harm you, unless provoked, or hungry ,and in the latter case, it is curtains if you are possibly in the edible list of creatures!!
